Guidelines for Basic Evaluation of the Patient With Atrial Fibrillation with regards to additional Investigation of Selected Patients With Atrial Fibrillation the recommendation is consider a Sleep study to test for Sleep Apnea:
“Plasma levels of B-type natriuretic peptide or N-terminal pro- B-type natriuretic peptide may be elevated in patients with paroxysmal and persistent AF in the absence of clinical HF, and levels decrease rapidly after restoration of sinus rhythm. A sleep study may be useful if sleep apnea is suspected.”
